Resume Template

ATS

Built for applicant tracking systems

Who it suits

  • Careers portal applications
  • High-volume applications
  • Recent graduates
Layout
Single column · plain text
ATS compatibility
Excellent

No graphics, no columns, no colour — the text layer reads straight through.

Single column, no colour, no icons, no tables. Contact details are written under plain labels such as “Email:” and “Phone:”, so field matching is unambiguous. The safest option when applying through a large employer's careers portal.

Layout

How the ATS template is built

Knowing how information sits on the page before you pick a template directly affects how your application gets read.

Single column, all the way down

Nowhere on the page do two content blocks sit side by side. Some parsers merge lines left to right in multi-column layouts and scramble the text; a single column removes that risk entirely.

Labelled contact fields

Contact details are written under plain labels such as “Email:”, “Phone:” and “Location:”. A phone number shown only with an icon is a meaningless string of digits to a parser; the label makes the field match unambiguous.

Standard section names

Sections are named “Work Experience”, “Education”, “Skills”, “Certifications” and “Languages”. Applicant tracking systems look for exactly these; inventive headings cause a section to go unrecognised.

No colour, icons or graphics

The accent colour setting is deliberately ignored in this template. No photo is ever shown and no skill bars are drawn. The document contains only headings, paragraphs and lists.

When not to choose this template

  • For applications handed over or emailed directly — a visual template is more memorable here
  • For design and creative roles where the resume goes alongside a portfolio

You can compare the alternatives side by side in the template comparison table.

Frequently asked questions

About the ATS template

Doesn't the ATS template look too plain?

It looks exactly as it should. This template's job is not to impress a person aesthetically but to let software read the resume in full — and on a careers portal, software reads it first.

When should I definitely use this template?

For applications through a large employer's own careers portal, and for high-volume applications sent via job boards.

Can I use both an ATS and a visual template with the same content?

Yes, and it is what we recommend. Switching template in the editor does not touch what you wrote, so you can export both versions and use whichever suits the channel.
